Is Anything Truly Organic?

I think not. http://www.who.int/foodsafety/chem/pops/en/index.html Since I believe that 'organic' is a lovely myth, I don't get really excited about products labeled as organic. I view 'organic' products as those produced with the intent of minimizing contaminants. There's nothing wrong with minimizing contaminants, but in order to produce something truly organic, we would have to have some incredible technology capable of transporting our globe to a time of  pre-human civilization, or at the very least prior to the industrial revolution.

I cannot make a reasonable assertion that my tomatoes are organic. I am surrounded by neighbors pouring herbicides, pesticides and other assorted chemicals on their notions of socially acceptable plantings, and I live in suburbia. I can make the assertion that I raise my plants with the intent of minimizing contamination.

The fuss about second hand smoke is a smoke screen. When contemplating pollution, I can't resist making a comparison between the overly publicized alleged dangers of second hand tobacco smoke, and the under publicized dangers of combustion engine exhaust, and many manufacturing waste products, as well as commonly used household chemicals. The high incidence of asthma worldwide is certainly not due to all of the tobacco smokers. The real causes are insurmountable, so it is preferable to deflect public attention from these problems.
