My physical powers are returning finally as I hoped desperately that they would-without pharmaceuticals or surgery-and I have been so happy to be able to do some planting and other things(carefully). Getting dirty in the yard means leaving some nice grunge behind in the tub. I am always trying out DIY cleaning recipes and ideas because I can't stand commercial chemicals and fakey fragrances. I was O.K. with baking soda, though it did lack a certain oomph, and vinegar stinks enough on its own to make my eyes water. Once upon a time before my body rebelled, I loved Comet. Then I switched to Bon Ami-which I do like and can handle. Mrs. Meyers is a little too intense on scent for me, so I decided to come up with my own blend since I had all the ingredients sitting around in various places.
Here is what I came up with and like well:
1/4 cup lime(yeah, straight up powdered lime for the garden)
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup borax
10 drops of rosemary essential oil (or any other kind of essential oil you like)
Put the powders in a jar and shake them to mix, then add your choice of essential oil(more drops if you like a heavier scent)--shake vigorously to blend and then..go clean that tub! Or toilet, sink, counter..whatever. This powder hasn't scratched anything I have used it on so far and has satisfyingly removed some grunge rings without giving me headaches and breathing difficulties.
A word of caution though-avoid breathing any dust that fluffs up. I usually put it on my damp sponge and proceed, thereby eliminating any dust fluff ups that would come from sprinkling it directly on a surface.
