The end finally came for my little Toshiba windows 8 laptop and surprisingly, I am not mourning it intensely. I'm writing this from my non expensive yet quite functional RCA Viking Pro tablet. This device took some getting used to, but so far I am loving it! My Toshiba's mechanical structure seems to be O.K., so I am planning on a trial of a linux O.S. in the near future. Oh yes, I have NO idea what I'm doing, but I am one of those people that becomes obsessively determined when I get into the doing of a something. I think I have succeeded in wiping the old Toshiba's hard drive. This could be a lie. I thought I had done that before too when I reloaded the Windows 8 O.S. but things didn't go so well. One thing is certain: I have absolutely nothing to loose by fiddling with the already dysfunctional machine! In the meantime, I am content to not be slave to the disappointing Microsoft O.S. although I must be honest and say that Windows 10 is working beautifully for my daughter on her new H.P. laptop. I suspect that the only machines that will tolerate Windows 10 are the ones with a buttload of memory and a fast processor with more than 2 cores. I really don't know much, but I'm a tinkering junkie. It was so much easier to tinker with machines that had a BIOS rather than the secure boot E something. I am going to see just how far I can go with no Windows! Chrome books seem to have come a long way. I might just add one to my collection. For the now, I'm getting a pristine flash drive and Mint? Ubuntu? Something else? Oh, the choices! So delicious!
